<p>PURPOSE:To reduce resistance loss and eddy current loss while satisfying characteristics by making the sectional area of a magnetic core on which an output winding is wound smaller than that of a magnetic core on which an input winding is wound. CONSTITUTION:The sectional area of a magnetic core 3 on which an output winding 6 is wound is made smaller than that of a magnetic core 2 on which an input winding 5 is wound. For example, voltage applied to the input winding 5 is dropped up to a boosting and the output winding 6 is generated, and a discharge lamp D is started and lit. Winding length is short in the output winding 6 because the sectional area of the second magnetic core section 3 is relatively small, thus reducing resistance loss in the case when load currents flow through the output winding 6 only by the shortened section of winding length. Leakage flux is distributed centering around the gap of a magnetic core 1, but a winding interlinked with the leakage flux is also shortened only by the shortened section of winding length, thus reducing eddy current loss.</p> |
