Metal fluid film slides for devices used to transport loads, e.g. workpieces to and from machine tools, which slides are mounted underneath a load-bearing platform, making the load-bearing platform displaceable without friction over irregularities in the slide surface and over grooves covering a wide range of loads by means of a cushion made of fluid. These metal fluid film slides essentially comprise a cylinder (2), the front of which is designed as a plate (3) in which inlet nozzles (8), equalising chambers (9) and resonance chambers (11) are arranged to eradicate self-starting oscillations, and a plurality of telescopic pistons (4,5,6) which are arranged inside the cylinder (2) and which recede towards one another depending on the state of the load, thereby coping with irregularities in the slide surface (22) and/or eccentric loads. <IMAGE>
