The invention relates to a method for the diagnosis of mastitis by immunoturbidometric or nephelometric determination of serum albumin in milk, in which a clarifying agent (A) or a mixture of compounds which can be used as clarifying agents and which quantitatively precipitate the milk casein and butterfat is added to the milk, the clear milk obtained in this way is diluted using a diluent (B), subsequently the immunoreactive agent (C) is added, and the resulting immune complex is determined with the aid of a reference standard (D).
