1281756 Folding and cutting thin material FELDMUHLE ANLAGEN-UND PRODUKTIONS GmbH 15 July 1969 [15 July 1968] 35570/69 Heading B8R Apparatus for the manufacture of " one-time " bed clothes such as bed sheets, pillows &c., from a continuous web of non-woven material, comprises pairs of rollers 4, 5 drawing the web 3 from a roll 2 on to a continuously-moving conveyer 8, a knife 6 for cutting the web into lengths, a device 10 for folding the cut piece as shown at 3b, a reduced-speed conveyer 11 for receiving the folded piece, control means 7 for the knife actuated by the leading edge of the web, control means 9 for the folding means actuated by the trailing edge of the cut piece, and means 14 for connecting together the edges of the folded cut pieces. In one form, an adjustable electro-optical or electro-mechanical device 7 senses the leading edge of the web and produces an impulse causing stoppage of the rollers 4, 5, operation of the knife 6, and restarting of the rollers 4, 5 in that order. However, the rollers 4, 5 may rotate continuously in which case the knife 6 moves across the web at an angle depending on the web speed. A multi-edge knife preferably is employed. Another adjustable electrooptical device senses the rear edge of the severed piece to terminate the folding operation. A second folding device 12 controlled similarly to the device 10 operates on the once-folded piece 3b to produce the piece 3c. A third conveyer 13 may carry the piece 3c to two sewing machines 14 or other means, one on each side of the conveyer, for connecting edges by stitching adhesion or welding. The speeds of the conveyers 11, 13 is reduced relatively to the speed of the conveyer of the preceding folding means by an amount proportional to the reduction in length of the folded piece. |
