A polyphase controlled reactor comprises a magnetic core 1 with a set of main windings 3 in slots 2 around the core to produce a rotating magnetic field, and control windings 4, 5 and 6 some or all of which may be in the same slots as the main windings, and wholly or partly embracing the core cross-section. The reactor could be used for controlling the parameters of three phase A.C. power circuits.
