[Also in Division B5] A gas filter as shown in Fig. 1 comprises an assembly of panels, each consisting of a section of pleated paper in a metal, U-section, rectangular frame of perforated metal (Figs. 2, 8, 9) arranged in zig-zag formation across a frame-like metal casing. In manufacture, individual panels or assemblies of two or more panels are arranged in a tray 20, having turned over front and rear edges (21), (22) which are cut away (26) to hold the panels (Fig. 5, not shown). Side walls 30, 30a are attached to tray 20 by screws, and top 32, similarly formed to tray 20, is added to complete the casing. The open front and rear of the casing are successively immersed in thermosetting resin in a partitioned flat mould (Figs. 6, 7, not shown) and the whale assembly heat treated, the resin joining the abutting metal frames of individual panels and penetrating the panels to join the paper to the frames. Polyester resin or refractory cement is then run into top and bottom trays 32, 20, joining the panels thereto and embedding the ends of screws hoilding the casing together. In an alternative embodiment, trays 20, 32 incorporate troughs into which the ends of panels fit. Strips of sealing material may be compressed between top, bottom and sides of the casing, and sides 30, 30a may be faced with sealing material to engage the end panels. |
