In a cathodoluminescent lamp of the type having an electrically conductive coating (8) forming the anode on the interior surface of the bulb wall (1), a phosphor coating (9) overlying the anode coating and an electron emissive cathode (13) below a grid (10), the lead (22) to the anode passes through a glass tube (21), additional to the exhaust tube (19), incorporated in the pinched foot tube (3), and is sealed through the pinch (20), and the contact between the anode lead (22) and the anode coating (8) on the bulb is provided by a bent metal strip (5) attached to envelope neck (2) and partially covered by the anode coating (8), which extends partly down the neck (2), the end of the anode lead (22) being engaged with an upstanding portion of the contact strip (5).
