摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain high igniting energy to enable high-speed ignition and heighten combustion efficiency, by using the explosion power of primary combustion to open an ignition valve closing the boundary plane between a primary and a secondary combustion chambers and by using the flame of the primary combustion to ignite a mixture in the secondary combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:An ignition valve 9 is provided on the lower end of a rod 3, which is moved up and down with the rotation of a cam 1. A primary intake passage 16 fitted with a primary intake valve 17 and a primary exhaust passage 6 fitted with a primary exhaust valve 7 are provided for a primary combustion chamber 10. A mixture in the primary combustion chamber is ignited and burned by a spark plug 8. The ignition valve 9 is pushed down by the energy of the primary combustion of the mixture. A mixture in a secondary combustion chamber 13 is ignited and burnt by the flame of the primary combustion. Upon the beginning of expansion stroke, a piston 14 is pushed down to rotate a crankshaft to turn the cam 1 in conjunction with the crankshaft. As a result, the rod 3 is pushed out of the recess 2 of the cam 1 to open the ignition valve 9 to connect the primary and the secondary combustion chambers 10, 13 to each other.
