PURPOSE:To automate and facilitate the operation of an exhaust retarder, by installing a switch, which is automatically set in motion according to car speed, in parallel with a manual switch for exhaust retarder operation use, of an engine. CONSTITUTION:A solenoid valve 5 is installed in an actuator 4 of an exhaust valve 2 being set up inside an exhaust pipe 1, and an accelerator switch 6, a clutch switch 7 and a manual switch 8 are all connected in series to a control circuit of the solenoid valve 5, while a contact point A of a relay 10 for exhaust retarder operation is connected to the manual switch 8 in parallel. When an exhaust retarder is required to be applied as a car goes downhill, a relay operating switch 12 is turned on, if so, a car speed V1 at that moment is detected by a car speed sensor 13 and stored in a control device 11. When the car speed exceeds V2 (V2+alpha), the relay 10 gets operated, applying the exhaust retarder. When the car speed drops up to V1, the relay 10 is demagnetized and the exhaust retarder becomes unoperated, so that the relay 8 automatically turns nonoperative. |
