<p>PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals, in high yield, suppressing the production of by-products, by contacting beta-naphthol with H2 in the presence of a catalyst obtained by supporting Ni to a proper carrier. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is prepared by reacting beta-naphthol with H2 in a solvent durable to the hydrogenation reaction (e.g. ethanol) in the presence of an Ni-supported catalyst at 70-200 deg.C under hydrogen pressure of 20- 200kg/cm<2> for 2-20hr. The Ni-supported catalyst is the one obtained by supporting Ni (accounting for the major part of the metals) and other metals such as Fe, Cr, Mo, V, Mn, W, Pb, Co, Cu, Ag, Sn, etc. on diatomaceous earth, alumina or alkaline carrier. The amount of Ni is preferably 10-50wt%, and that of the catalyst is >=5wt% based on beta-naphthol. EFFECT:A fixed bed reactor can be used in the industrial application, and accordingly, the objective compound can be separated easily from the catalyst.</p> |
