PURPOSE:To enhance durability of an engine by neutralizing the condensate exhausted from the exhaust system of the engine and thereby suppressing corrosion at the exhaust system, and to maintain thereby environments in good condition. CONSTITUTION:When engine 1 is in operation under the condition that the rate of excessive air lambda=1.4, the exhaust gas G is purified by an exhaust gas purifier 5 and undergoes heat exchange with a thermomedium W at a heat exchanger 6, a part being condensed to become a strongly acid condensate C1, which will then flow into a tank 9. When the engine operation transfers to the condition that the rate of excessive air lambda=1, part of the exhaust gas G becomes strongly acid condensate C2 to flow into the tank 9, and is mixed with the acid condensate C1, which has been stagnating in the tank 9, to approach the pH value of the mixture Co gradually to the neutral state. When the surface level of this mixture Co attains a level l2, the pH value of the mixture Co approaches 7 and a level sensor 12 will get the OFF state. |
