PURPOSE:To prevent a miss paper feed by determining preset time beforehand based on the size of documents stored in a memory section and stopping the paper feed operation when detecting that no document has reached a predetermined position within the preset time from the start of the paper feed operation. CONSTITUTION:When a paper feed command is applied to a control section 14, the control section 14 first reads the length data TF between a hopper 1 and a detection position and the length data TS of a document 2 from a memory 22, calculates a time TFC from an equation TF+TS=TFC, then sets this time TFC in a timer section 17. The timer section 17 calculates the time from the present time T1. At the same time, the control section 14 feeds signals to driver circuits 5, 13, operates a motor 4 to drive paper feed rollers 3, 3' and also allows a light emitting diode 10 to emit light rays. Accordingly, the paper feed is started, and if the document 21 does not reach a photoelectric element 11 within said time TFC, the output of the timer section 17 is fed to the motor 4 through the control section 14 to stop it. |
