A process for use in repairing a roadway having an asphalt surfacing 14 in which there is fitted a manhole cover 12, 20, which normally rests on at least one releasably installed fitting element 15 with the manhole cover substantially level with the roadway. Before an outer layer of the surfacing is cut away, the fitting element is removed such that the manhole cover can be lowered to below the level at which the mill-cutting will take place. After this, the manhole cover is raised to the level of the new surface layer by the installation of fitting elements beneath the manhole cover. The new surface layer is subsequently laid on the roadway. A manhole cover for use in the implementation of the process has a cover rim 20, which is placed with a smooth surface 21 at right angles to the end plane of the cover rim. At its lower edge, the cover rim has an inward- facing flange 22 for support against the manhole pipe 18 or against fitting elements 15, 19 lying thereon. <IMAGE> |
