The process comes within the scope of the manufacture of steel in a converter and is aimed at supplying the bath with heat by means of fuels containing carbon. To refine the steel and burn the fuel, oxygen is introduced into the converter both under the surface of the bath and in the form of gas jets pointed at the surface of the bath, which act as free jets across the gaseous space of the converter during a large proportion of the refining. Use for raising the heat efficiency of the fuel combustion.
