Device in which the control element for the relative position is a pair of metal plates fixed respectively to the chassis of the seat and the chassis of the cushion which are themselves fixed mutually in an articulating manner about a spindle equipped with a cam mechanism, one of the said plates being articulated about the said spindle and the plates moreover comprising internal and external toothed sections which mesh in different places which are chosen at will. The spindle 130 controlling the cam mechanism is rotatably driven by a toothed wheel 145 force fitted to it and in turn controlled by an electric motor 140 via an appropriate reduction gear, the said reduction gear and electric motor being supported by a single stand 146, 147 mounted on one of the two plates 110, 120.
