The invention relates to a device for forming twist selvedges for double-pile fabrics, which loops the twist threads around the vertical threads of the upper and lower shed as a half twist and which ties in the twist threads by means of weft threads, the twist needles being guided between the marginal warp threads and rake-like vertical-thread grids being shifted alternately to the left and right in relation to the twist threads. This device can be used for double-pile carpet looms. In comparison with known devices of this type, it has been designed extremely simply and its mode of operation has been improved. It becomes possible to produce a plurality of twist selvedges next to one another directly adjacent to the fabric selvedge, and it can be used as a catch strip, with only one twist-selvedge device for the strips lying respectively one above the other at the two fabric selvedges of the double-pile fabric. This is achieved in that two slides equipped with twist needles for the upper and lower shed are movable simultaneously and oppositely to one another, and the needle frame is arranged in a stationary manner and has grid bars extending through the two sheds, whilst the vertical-thread grid is a component of a double rocker and is laterally movable.
