Process and arrangement for transferring information to drivers of motor vehicles

In order to transfer information to the drivers of motor vehicles relating to an instantaneous driving style which is favourable in relation to fuel consumption, a change in the restoring force of an accelerator pedal is automatically set in the region of the entire travel of the pedal and as a function of characteristic variables which reproduce the engine torque and the engine speed. This change is haptically perceived by the driver as a pressure change on the sole of the foot during the actuation of the accelerator pedal. Additional information, e.g. the gear selection, can be conveyed in the form of movements, such as vibrations, superimposed on the travel of the pedal.
