<p>The prior art mark-sense ballot document reading system permitted feeding of the document which was to be read in one prescribed manner with highly controlled document feeding. The present system is a microprocessor (150) controlled mark-sense ballot document reading system (145) having automatic mark detection threshold adjustment (225), automatic skew and document speed correction, and provision for simultaneous, accurate reading of both sides of the document regardless of input orientation (103, 104). A multidispatch, multipage real time control program in a firmware memory (185) is used to enable multiple event detection of each side of the document via a multiplexor (220). A folded document path transport mechanism uses two diverter stations (90, 95) operating under programmable control (210) for determining document destination. Positive document sensing and control are thus achieved by the microprocessor (150) control of the document reading system (145). </p> |
