The invention relates to a method for the removal of carbon deposits from valves, especially inlet valves and consists in that the valve surface is blasted with a granulated material, the carbon deposits adhering to the valve surface or other residues being eroded by the granulate jet. The method can be applied to valves fitted in the cylinder head or valves which have been removed. Ground nut shells are used as blasting material.
