The subject-matter of the application is a barometric altimeter which is carried in vehicles. According to the invention, it contains a locking element with which pressure changes can be excluded from its display. This locking element is coupled to the vehicle in such a way that it is actuated when the vehicle stops and then does not permit pressure changes which occur to be displayed.
