The invention relates to a process for producing coated, high-strength, low-alloy steel. A steel strip is cleaned by removing rolling oil, heated in a blanketing gas atmosphere to a temperature range A1 to A3, annealed and then quenched in a zinc/aluminium bath for a short time which is sufficient for a zinc layer to remain adhering to the steel surface. The steel strip is then rapidly cooled to a temperature below 300 DEG C in order to obtain a two-phase steel structure.
