A switching device for controlling the actuation drives of vehicle seats, which can be actuated in order to adjust the seat cushion and in order to adjust the back rest in each case by means of a switching element which can be moved from its neutral position in a plurality of directions, is to be capable of being manufactured in a manner which is as space-saving and economical as possible. Therefore, a single switching element is provided for the two seat components to be adjusted, it being possible to switch over said element from one neutral position into the other neutral position without triggering a switching function.
