In gas/liquid reactors or suspension reactors (3), in which the heat transfer obtained on incorporated heat exchange surfaces is too poor and evaporative cooling is not possible, the gas rate fed in is increased above the level required for the reaction to such an extent that the liquid-laden gas largely transports the enthalpy of reaction out of the reactor. A gas circulation system with a condenser (8) is preferred. The gases which are in the critical region under the conditions prevailing in the reactor are particularly suitable. <IMAGE>
