An apparatus for conveying and mounting a shell mould 20 in a flask 6 comprises two pairs of horizontal rails 4, 5 arranged to form upper and lower tracks upon which the flasks 6 run on rollers 7. At each end of the track is an automatic lift 8, 9. These lifts operate synchronously. Separate means 22, 25 move the flasks 6 along the tracks in an indexing manner. A flask at the left-hand end of the lower track is raised by the lift 8 to the upper track. During the raising, air is supplied to the porous base 14 of the flask to fluidize a bed of sand in the flask. The shell mould 20 is taken from a furnace (not shown) by a mechanical handler 21 and lowered into the fluidized sand bed. The fluidization is stopped and the shell mould firmly held in its flask by the sand. The mouldcontaining flask is moved rightwards to a casting and an extraction station. The last flask on the upper track is pushed on to a lift 9 and lowered to the lower track for return to the fluidization station.</p> |
