The emergency brake device (1) of a brake control valve of an indirectly acting compressed air brake for rail vehicles has an emergency brake piston (4) which is acted on by the brake line pressure (BP pressure) counter to the pressure (QA) in a control chamber (QAC). The emergency brake piston (4) is coupled on the one hand via a coupling (9) which has play (h) to a ventilation valve (5) for ventilation, throttled via a nozzle (6), of the control chamber (QAC) and on the other hand to a pulsator exciter valve (8). The pulsator exciter valve (8) monitors a connection of the control chamber (QAC) via a nozzle (13) to a pulsator (12) which, on being excited via this connection by means of derived control chamber pressure (QAW pressure), releases to the atmosphere in a pulsating fashion pressure (BPW pressure) derived from the brake line (BP) via a nozzle (23). <IMAGE>
