The gasket provides a double compression seal (2, 6) with auto centering and may be used on valves to interpose the obturator (19) and its seat. The gasket may have two round section elastic seals (2, 6) located on the two opposite parallel edges of a liaison strip (10). One seal (2) locates in the base (23) of a specially contoured retaining recess (2) and the other projects beyond the recess to interpose the obturator (19) and its seat (16). The arrangement obviates non-central bearing situations with associated leaks. The obturator-seal (6) is retained by a counter-ring (9) which acts on a side remote from the obturator. The gasket has a certain elasticity whereby the obturator-seal (6) has auto-centering characteristics. The interaction of the two seals (2, 6) is ensured by the structural properties of the liaison strip (10). The strip (10) may be of elastic metal, may have an approx. central longitudinal 'V' section locating-rib (11) and may have overcurled longitudinal edges housing the seals (2, 6). |
