A drum for a laundry machine having a side wall member (13) and end parts (10,11), the side wall member (13) is divergent from a mid region towards its ends and has a flange (18, 19) formed at each end adapted to co-operate with flanges (23,31) of the end parts (10,11) to fom successive areas of contact by means of which the end parts may be secured to the side wall member (13) by welding and apertures (29,37) to allow for entry of water into the drum and exit of water from the drum. The side wall member (13) is substantially apertureless thereby minimising wear on any clothes placed therein and the divergent side wall enhances good distribution of the clothes in the drum, the end parts (10,11) are of shallow dish-like configuration having arcuate rim portions (10a, 11a) which contribute to the strength of the construction of the drum, the radially outwardly extending flanges enabling a strong construction that may be assembled without undue difficulty. |
