Application of an automatic electronic telephone number information device which, at the instigation of the terminal of the information-seeking calling party, determines the telephone number of the terminal of a different connection owner by means of a computer, in particular for a telephone switching system or telex switching system. No telephone book is required, since, in addition to the display of the determined telephone number on the terminal of the calling party or instead of this display, the determined telephone number itself initiates the dialling procedure from the terminal of the calling party to the terminal of the different connection owner.
