PURPOSE:To enable a definite depth of cut to be always maintained even if the diameter of a rotary knife is varied because of wear by calculating the actual depth of cut by said knife, comparing the result with the preset depth of cut and making adjustment so that these two agree with each other. CONSTITUTION:In adjusting the depth of cut by rotary knives for grinders, side milling cutters, etc., against a workpiece, the axial center (0) of a rotary knife 1 is made the origin of coordinates, and the coordinates (X, Y) of the contact point A between the knife 1 and the workpiece 3 are found. Since the diameter of the knife 1 becomes (X<2>+Y<2>)<1/2> from these coordinates, the actual depth of cut S can be calculated by S=(X<2>-Y<2>)<1/2> -Y. By comparing this value with the preset referential depth of cut, the knife 1 and the workpiece 3 are relatively moved in the Y direction so that these two values agree with each other. By this method, a constantly definite depth of cut is maintained even if the diameter of the knife 1 is varied because of wear. |
