The numerical control device, using a computer (29), applies to existing cam-operated lathes. The cams (12, 14 to 18) are free on the shaft (11) and each have a single even lobe. A transmission using a worm housed in a casing (23) connects each of them to a stepper motor (21), which drives its cam in one direction, through the angle necessary for the desired advancement of the corresponding member of the lathe and in the opposite direction in order to withdraw this member. The computer (29) transmits its control pulses to the motors (21) via conduits (30 to 36). In order to manufacture a specific component, all the data necessary for machining it are entered into the computer (29) via a keyboard (37). If necessary, the computer (29) prints the diagram of the cams corresponding to the said data. <IMAGE>
