Waste water from hydrocarbon conversion process (1) is catalysed with O2 under oxidising conditions to convert ammonium thiosulphate to ammonia and free sulphur which are are separated. (2) is catalytically treated with H2 under reducing conditions to convert ammonium thiosulphate to hydrogen sulphide. Hydrogen sulphide is recovered to leave thiosulphate free water which can be recycled. H2S and NH3 are useful by-products. Fresh water requirements are reduced and pollution problems minimised.
|
