PURPOSE:To effectively perform formation in a short time to increase productivity without decrease in the battery performance and increase in cost by once raising temperature of a battery and then cooling it in the initial charge. CONSTITUTION:In a process in which formation is performed with a battery cooled in a water both, after formation has been made to 1/10-1/2 of the formation capacity, the battery temperature is raised to 50 deg.C or higher, and then cooled. This process is continued during charge. Thereby, formation is effectively performed in a short time. This formation is especially effective in a sealed lead-acid battery in which the specific gravity of pouring electrolyte is high or the amount of electrolyte is limited. |
