PURPOSE:To obtain a halogen-reaction electrode in which ruthenium does not elute in an electrolyte during operation by supporting ruthenium in a carbon plate, and heating it in an oxidizing atmosphere at 120-500 deg.C to convert rutheni um into ruthenium oxide. CONSTITUTION:Ruthenium is supported on a carbon plate and heated in an oxidizing atmosphere at 120-500 deg.C to convert ruthenium into ruthenium oxide. Ruthenium is supported on the carbon plate in such a way that it is directly supported by plasma thermal spray, or ruthenium chloride solution is impregnated in the carbon plate and dried then heated in a reducing atmosphere at 400-750 deg.C to reduce ruthenium chloride to ruthenium. Although ruthenium is oxidized by heating in an oxidizing atmosphere, in heating at the temperature less than 120 deg.C, oxidation is insufficient, and in heating at the temperature above the 500 deg.C, consumption of carbon plate is increased. Therefore, temperature of 120-500 deg.C is preferable. |
