PURPOSE:To enable the optical logical operation at a high speed, by coupling a pair of single mode optical waveguides which have an equal phase constant and cross each other at one end and a pair of single mode optical waveguides which have different phase constants and cross each other at one end in the respective crossed parts. CONSTITUTION:The light of a light emitting device 41 is made incident to an optical waveguide 23 and the logical outputs are obtd. from optical waveguides 13, 14 and are detected respectively with photodetectors 43, 44. Said outputs are inputted to a processing circuit 45 after they are converted to electrical signals. The incident light of the waveguide 23 is divided to two beams of light having an equal light power and the same phase by a Y-shaped optical demultiplexing path and the divided beams are advanced respectively through optical waveguides 21, 22 to optical waveguides 11, 12. When switches 33, 34 are both on and off, the light propagated in the waveguides 11, 12 are of the same phase and the output light is obtd. only from the waveguide 13. When either of the switches 33, 34 is on, the light propagated in the waveguides 11, 12 are of anti-phases and the output light is obtd. only from the waveguide 14. EX-NOR, EX-OR logical outputs are obtd. in the photodetectors 43, 44, and the optical logical circuit of a high speed is realized. |
