PURPOSE:To translate each word correctly by discriminating the read start and the read end points of each word in a character string read and converted photoelectrically by a light pen. CONSTITUTION:The light pen 2 is scanned at right angle to the character string printed on a document 1 and the read character string is converted 4 photoelectrically to make a black/white decision for character recognition, sending a character signal to a character signal output control circuit 11. A discriminating circuit 18, on the other hand, sends out the contents of the circuit 11 to an electronic translating circuit 12 when the read start indication pulse of a pulse generator 17 and the output of an interword gap detecting circuit 10 are impressed at the same time. The circuit 18 cuts off the character signal impressed to the circuit 12 immediately when the read end indication pulse of the generator 17 and the output of the detecting circuit 10 are impressed at the same time. Then, if no pulse is impressed from the circuit 10 even when the read end pulse is inputted, the interword gap detection output right before the indication pulse is impressed is impressed. |
