PURPOSE:To obtain easily the titled optical fibers having a low loss, by joining a semicircular glass rod obtained by grinding one side of a base material for single mode optical fibers to a rod, containing a core, and having a high coefficient of thermal expansion and one ground side, and drawing the joined glass rod. CONSTITUTION:One side of a base material of circular cross section doped with boronic oxide for single mode optical fibers is ground to prepare a semicircular glass rod 5 having a joining surface (7b) without containing a core. A rod 4, having a joining surface (7a) in agreement with the joining surface (7b) and one ground side, and containing a core 1 with a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the semicircular glass rod 5 is separately prepared. The joining surfaces (7a) and (7b) of the rod 4 having the one ground side and the semicircular glass rod 5 are combined, introduced into a quartz glass tube 6 and hot drawn to give the aimed optical fibers having a presserved plane of polarization and a clad 2 only on one side with respect to the core 1. |
