A moist material (a) to be made into briquettes is fed through a pair of briquetting rolls rotating on horizontal axes. Material (a) is sepd. from the rolls by strips of a material (b) fed from two spools, so that each briquette is provided with an envelope made of strip (b). Strips (b) are pref. paper, fabric, polymer, or metal foils; and material (a) is esp. a milled substance or ore to be fed into a metallurgical melting furnace. The envelopes (b) provide ore briquettes etc with increased resistance to abrasion, and reduce the wear on the briquetting rolls.
