PURPOSE:To provide a high-performance recording material for general use and ink jet recording use which has a property of speedily absorbing an ink, is excellent in dot shape and gives clear images, by applying a specified coating liquid to a paper having a specified Stockigt sizing degree. CONSTITUTION:A coating liquid having a pH of not less than 9 is applied to a paper having a Stockigt sizing degree of not lower than 10sec. When such a coating liquid is applied to an ordinarily used paper, e.g., a woodfree paper or an intermediate quality paper which has a Stockigt sizing degree of not lower than 10sec, excellent ink absorptivity is obtained, blurring or feathering of an ink is prevented from occurring, an excellent dot shape can be obtained, and recorded images with high fineness and resolution can be obtained. A preferable coating liquid is an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal carbonate, an alkali metal hydrogen carbonate, an alkaline earth hydroxide or the like. The concentration of the alkaline substance is preferably about 0.1-10wt%. The amount of the coating liquid applied is generally about 0.01-10g/m<2>. |
