Process for producing chipboards

The invention relates to the production of chipboards, the binder for the wood fibres consisting of cross-linkable polyethylene powder to which a small amount of peroxide or encapsulated vinyl silane has been added, which crosslinks the polyethylene powder in the pressing phase in a hot press. The polyethylene powder is made to adhere homogeneously to the wood fibres by first adding a water-soluble adhesive agent to the fibres. The mixing is carried out in a high-speed dry mixer. After mixing is complete, the wood-fibre composition is ready for pressing in the hot press to form boards of appropriate thickness.
