The invention relates to an ultrasonic tomograph having an ultrasonic emitting and receiving system for the line-by-line scanning of a test object (7) from different angular directions, in which the ultrasonic emitting and receiving system is fastened on a support (21, 65) rotatable in a liquid tank (3, 60) about a vertical axis (17, 86) aligned with the central round opening (6, 62) in a covering hood (2, 61). In such ultrasonic tomographs the aim is to place optimally distinct cutting planes as close as possible to the central round opening. For this purpose, the invention proposes that several ultrasonic transducers (26 to 29, 45 to 48, 79 to 88) of different diameter be arranged at the circumference of an essentially cylindrical ultrasonic head rotatable about its axis of symmetry (31, 49, 83) and at the same time guidable on an arc around the mean perpendicular towards the central opening. An ultrasonic tomograph according to the invention is suitable for use in medical technology. <IMAGE>
