PURPOSE:To omit a chopper exclusive for the case of the titled braking operation by effectively utilizing a semiconductor converter for regulating field currents not only on power-running operation but also on the regenerative braking operation. CONSTITUTION:A regenerative braking main resistor 17 is connected to the armature group 3 of a first motor group, and a regenerative braking main resistor 19 is connected to the armature group 5 of a second group. On the other hand, the semiconductor converters 21, 22 for a magnetic field system are each connected to the field winding group 4 of the first motor group and the field winding group 6 of the second motor group. When the resistance values of the regenerative braking main resistors 17, 19 are regulated by short-circuit switches 18, 20, the semiconductor converters 21, 22 for regulating field currents are controlled just before the short-circuit switches 18, 20 are operated so that the generating torque of the motors or the variation of armature currents after the short-circuit switches 18, 20 are operated is kept within a prescribed range, and field currents are regulated previously. |
