PURPOSE:To prevent the malfunction of an original sensor, by feeding an original at a position and a timing in which the light of an illuminating light source during carriage return is not detected at the original sensor and detecting a rear end of the original by the original sensor. CONSTITUTION:After a carriage 8 is moved to a position where the light of an illuminating light source 9 is not detected at a photodetector of the original sensor 6, the light source 9 is lighted, the original 3 is inserted and the original is fed until the tip of the original 3 is detected at the sensor 6. Then, the carriage 8 is returned in the home position HP direction and stopped after the sensor 13 confirms that the carriage 8 reaches the HP. Then, the scanning is started by the carriage 8 directed in the end position EP (X direction), and when the carriage 8 reaches the EP, the return is started toward the HP (X' direction). In this case, when the carriage 8 comes to the prescribed position where the light of the light source 9 is not entered to the photodetector of the sensor 6, the original 3 is moved in the Y direction of the sub-scanning and the rear end of the original 3 is detected with the sensor 6 at the same time, allowing to prevent the malfunction of the original sensor. |
