PURPOSE:To correct efficiently an error even at a transmission line whose line condition is bad, by applying soft discrimination decoding to a generalized product code X after correcting a correctable error in advance. CONSTITUTION:One composite unit of a generaried product code X comprising the combination of an error detection code C1 on a Galois field GF2 and an error correction code C2 on a GF2<b> is inputted to the 1st C2 decoder 15 via a buffer 14, where the code is decoded and inputted to a buffer 16. The 1st C1 coder 17 checks the error in the input signal and stores the result to a memory 19. The error in the content of the buffer 16 is checked at a decoder 18 and the result is stored in a memory 20. A comparison discriminating circuit 21 compares the information of the memories 19, 20, discriminates the correctable and incorrectable state, synthesizes the information of the memories 19, 20 based on the discrimination, stores it in a memory 24 and gives a command to a selecting circuit 22 and a buffer 23 through the discriminating circuit. The correct information in the content of the buffers 14, 16 is selected 22 with the command and it is applied with the soft discrimination decoding with the content of the memory 24 at the 2nd C2 decoder 25 and outputted. |
