PURPOSE:To form a magnetic gap precisely, by forming a magnetic gap layer on a side surface of the 1st substrate which has a magnetic layer on the surface, uniting the substrate with the 2nd substrate and forming the next magnetic layer then polishing it and exposing a gap layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer 4 is formed on the surface of the glass substrate 3 having a high fusion point and the end surface 5 is finished into a specular surface; then the magnetic gap layer 6 is stuck by sputtering. Next, exactly the same substrate 7 as the substrate 3 is adhered to the substrate 3 at 450 deg.C to form the composite substrate 9, the magnetic layer 10 is formed on the surface of the substrate 9 in a magnetically short-circuited shape, and the surface is polished into a flat plate to obtain a core 11 with a gap. A side core 13 provided with winding 12 is adhered to the surfaces of magnetic layers 4 and 10 to constitute a magnetic head. Thus, the magnetic gap is formed precisely and variation in magnetic gap length in the life of the magnetic head is reduced. |
