The vertical drill has a safety system which cuts-out the motor if the magnetically operated base plate starts to slide or lift due to the torque transmitted by the drill bit. The drill bit and motor are mounted on a pillar (10) with vertical movement in a rack and pinion (18) the pillar rising from an electromagnetic base (12). The drill shaft (22) passes through a ring (24) and bracket (28) secured to the base. - Movement is detected by a sensor and lever articulated with the vertical actuating shaft of a switch in series with the main manual switch to the motor. The sensor works against a helical spring and is positioned at the opposite side of the base to the drill bit but can be manually adjusted for sensitivity (168). |
