With the locking device, the screwdriver (2) of the pocket knife (1) is to be prevented from snapping shut again in an undesired manner during use and thus causing injuries to the hand. If, when turning a screw, the screwdriver is pushed slightly counter to the latter, a lug (7) on the screwdriver engages with a recess (9) in a spring (5) of the pocket knife, thereby preventing the screwdriver (2) from snapping shut. The screwdriver is arranged rotatably about a pin (3) of the pocket knife. The opening (4) in the screwdriver (2), through which the pin (3) passes, has an elongated shape. By virtue of the oblique arrangement of the elongated openings (4) with respect to the longitudinal axis of the pocket knife, it is additionally made possible for the screwdriver to slide back into its front end position again after being relieved of its load.
