The torque caused by balls placed on a horizontal plate which can be rotated in one direction is measured by means of strain gauges and a y-t recorder. The balls determine the torque by their mass and the position of their common centre of gravity. When the balls roll, the recorder registers the uniform motion of the centre of gravity, which is not influenced by the mutual collisions of the balls.
