Device for laterally welding and cutting a double web of plastics film, especially for manufacturing plastics bags, having an upper pair of clamping jaws, which can be moved up and down, comprising incoming clamping jaw and outgoing clamping jaw, a lower pair of counter clamping jaws comprising incoming counter clamping jaw and outgoing counter clamping jaw, a cutting knife assigned to the clamping jaws and a transport device for the double web of plastics film. The cutting knife is disposed in a slit in the upper pair of clamping jaws. A release web of polytetrafluoroethylene or the like is led over the clamping jaws and on both sides of the cutting knife and around a rod, which is disposed above the cutting knife in the upper pair of clamping jaws. The cutting knife is mounted in surface contact in the slit, to be precise with the interposition of the release web as support film. A heating cartridge is disposed on each side of the slit in the pair of clamping jaws. In this manner the cutting knife can be very uniformly heated.
