The invention relates to a Ca<2+> ion-sensitive silicate glass layer which can be applied to a semiconductor substrate, in particular using the methods customary in semiconductor technology. By this means, for example, Ca<2+>-ion-sensitive field effect transistors (ISFETs), which work reliably over a long period, for aqueous solutions can be produced in an inexpensive manner.
