An automatic feed device for sheets, which is suitable for a visual recording machine, such as a facsimile machine or a copier, and especially an automatic feed device for individually separating a plurality of sheets and for automatically feeding the sheets in a sequence, is described. The automatic feed device is distinguished by a rotatable element which can be rotated in the direction of feed of the sheets, a counter-element which is arranged facing the rotatable element, a conveying device which is located behind the rotatable element in the conveying direction and is rotatable at a circumferential speed which is greater than the circumferential speed of the rotatable element, and an additional separating element against which the sheets are pressed by a tractive power which results from the difference between the circumferential speeds of the conveying device and the rotatable element.
